Why does the '96 Silver ML at a higher value than the '97?

The '97 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is the lower mintage at 100,970 while the '96 is 250,445....but the '96 is the higher priced. Why?

Is it that the '96 has been hoarded, so it is harder to find, or what would cause the lower mint '97 to be valued less than the '96?

I bought 4 sheets (10 per sheet) of the '97 a few weeks ago, thinking I made a nice score, and I find the '96 is the "king" of silver ML's. And I don't understand why the '96 has the title that should rightfully belong to the '97.

I'm happy to have the four sheets...since then the '97's seem to be hard to find now.

But I don't get why the '96 has the higher value. Is it a hoard issue? If so, won't the '97 catch up to it and surpass it once it is hoarded and hard to find? I did my part by hoarding 45 of them so far...my goal is to have 52 so I can own .0005 of that years mintage of a major silver coin.
Small bragging rights, but something.

.

Sorry for the poor sentence construction on the title.

Depends on the dealer. If they had less, then they probably charged a higher premium

I find the assessment that the '96 is the primo coin is not limited to one dealers opinion....it is reflected on internet prices as well. The '96 is going for close to $50 while the '97 is mid $30's.

It's across the board general consensus that the '96 is the more desirable coin, not the '97.

Still not sure why.

I have checked out a few site and I never realized the difference. Looks like you are right. Now we need to find out why :)

It is caused by former baseball card collectors that now believe that they are numismatists.

They are probably getting the date mixed up with the SAE - after a few Molsons they all look the same.

The story goes that one dealer in Ottawa bought almost all of them at issue and still owns most of them.

I guess he should have waited another year...I guess he thought '96 was going to be the lowest mint.

This guy from Ottawa is missing a sheet of the '96, cuz I found a sheet of them I could buy right now.

Is there any link to provide for the Ottawa story?

thanks
